Laine Moore | Yellowknife Portrait Photography

After much anticipation to shoot in sub-zero temperatures, here is one of my first teaser images from a session with my new co-worker Laine Moore. We braved -20 degrees and fell knee deep in snow a couple times. Thank you again Laine for braving the cold to amuse me and my photographers itch, as I had been dying to get out and take pictures again.

Playing with Portraiture | Personal Photography

When you’re married to a fellow photographer, your idea of down time is watching photography tutorials. Just the other day we sat down and watched a video about a lighting technique using the “inverse square law”. After the video was over, we were inspired to test out our new knowledge. I chose to light Ian from the left and proceeded to place a slave 480EXii flash behind him, directed at the wall, essentially creating a great grey gradient on what normally is a stark white wall.

Ian chose to place me far from the white background with one key light overhead, and a rim light to my left, because he chose to move me away from the wall and expose for my face, it in turn made the white wall appear more like a dark grey/brown. I’m very proud of the result we both came out with. Now to find a model to test this out further.

Dancing Aurora | Yellowknife landscape photography

After a 2 month long hiatus from my photography, I am finally settled in to my new home. Yellowknife is well known for their Northern Lights, and though I have visited multiple times, this was my very first view of the dancing lights.

This image was taken at 11:30 at night on the frozen ice road on Prosperous Lake, Northwest Territories; at -35 degrees Celsius.

This new year will be a time of learning, self discovery, and diving into multiple new outlets of photography. Follow me this year and discover the beauty of the Great White North.

Jen Ault | Chilliwack Portrait Photography

I had two separate sessions with Jennifer and she is such a creative soul. Our first session was very soft and romantic, whereas our second one (shot today) was very much inspired by the “Black Swan”.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I had photographing them.

And then the metamorphosis to the Black Swan

The Mader’s | Chilliwack Family Photography

I have known the Mader’s, well, since before I can remember. My parents sang “I swear” by All for One at their wedding. And their son Geoff married my cousin Brittany, who was more like a sister than a cousin because we grew up across the park from each other and are only a month apart in age.

The Mader’s hold an important place in the history of my photography. When I came home from Ireland 7 years ago I embarked on becoming a full fledged photographer. My very first paid session was the Mader’s, I remember they were so patient with me and they hung their family portrait in the Front room of their home. It was humbling and it was encouraging to have someone believe in me so much.

Now when Wendy tried to set up the next family portrait schedules conflicted, time was never in our favour, Wendy was definitely trying her hardest to make it work, and a little over a week and a half ago, before they went on her Mexican Vacation I finally had the privilege to photograph them once more!

I absolutely adore Jon and Wendy, and think of them as my immediate family!

Justin & Dori | Chilliwack Wedding Photography

Dori and Justin met many years ago, as their families attended the same church growing up. The age difference meant nothing in comparison to the friendship and blossoming love that they had for each other.

I met Dori in high school, she was a few grades younger than I but we shared a certain kinship in our love of theatre. When I bumped into her at a graduation banquet a year ago I finally met her fiancé, Justin. Justin has such a soft heart , all around a great man that was enamoured by our “little” Dori. Soon wedding plans were in full swing and she contacted me about photography, and the rest as they say is history.

Dori was a stunning bride, glowing inside/out. Her sweet smile and joyful heart blessed me as I photographed their wedding day. Congratulations again Mr. & Mrs. Grimard!

Mike & Andrea | Vancouver Wedding Photography

After much anticipation I am elated to share my recent Vancouver Bride and Groom, Mike and Andrea.

I drove into Vancouver on the day we had a record breaking rainfall. I had planned many covered locations but I was (and I’m sure Andrea as well) delighted when the rain stopped and the sun graced our bridal portraits!

From the hallowed architecture of the church of St. Francis of Assisi, to the breathtaking views of Queen Elizabeth Park. Every detail mirrored all the love that they have for each other.

Mike and Andrea, may you always feel the same overwhelming love as you did on your wedding day.

Nathan & Sharnele | Delta Wedding Photography

It was a beautiful September weekend. We prepared for rain but Nathan and Shar had an entire family and a plethora of friends praying that we would have sun (or my favorite – overcast), needless to say we got our ideal day.

From the moment I arrived at Sharnele’s family home it was rich with emotion and excitement. As the day progressed the sheer depth of their love was evident to everyone who came to stand behind them on this, their wedding day.

I couldn’t wait to share this wedding, and I am so blessed to be able to now! Congratulations again Mr. and Mrs. Harrison

AJ & Michelle | Chilliwack Wedding Photography

AJ and Michelle are so fun and full of personality, it was a pleasure to be apart of their big day. From an old soul biker boy to a rock and roll victory curl girl this day was already shaping up to be full of individuality. I loved every moment and every detail that went into their wedding. Congrats again to Mr. and Mrs. Phelps!
